European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) Gap Assessment and Socialization

In early February 2024 we were invited by the palm oil industry company PT Agrojaya Perdana in Medan to provide socialization regarding the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and carry out a gap assessment. This year, many companies in the following industries: palm oil, rubber, chocolate/cocoa, coffee, wood and cattle are preparing the operational systems and mechanisms needed so that their products can enter the European Union market, according to the implementation of the EUDR starting end of December 2024.

This socialization was attended by 34 staff members from the refinery, Kernel Crushing Plant (KCP), and 2 palm oil factories. We are very pleased with the company's seriousness who sent representatives from all departments related to EUDR implementation, such as the Quality Assurance Department, raw material purchasing, marketing, palm oil factory operations, KCP and refinery, legal, export administration and others. This is important because fulfilling the EUDR cannot be carried out by just one department, but is a systematic collaboration.

EUDR requires products whose supply chains can be traced back to oil palm plantations (traceable), are deforestation-free and meet legal aspects. This product's integrity must be maintained throughout the supply chain and not contaminated by products that do not meet the requirements. Companies must have systems, procedures and mechanisms that can be accountable to stakeholders.

Apart from that, we also visited KCPs and refineries and looked in detail starting from the list of suppliers, raw material receiving systems, recording, storage, processing and storage of final products as well as how to deliver products to customers. This is important to be able to prepare a comprehensive action plan for companies in preparing for EUDR implementation.
